High precision measurement of trace F and Cl in olivine by electron probe microanalysis

چکیده
Abstract Fluorine (F) and chlorine (Cl) are important volatiles in olivine its high-pressure polymorphs, which would significantly affect phase transition, melting temperature, physical property of the mantle. F Cl concentrations can be detected by electron probe microanalysis (EPMA). However, analytical accuracy precision impeded severe peak overlaps, low intensities traditional crystals, secondary fluorescence effects. In this study, we constructed an optimized method with high to analyze trace olivine. Key parameters beam conditions, effects were discussed. Variations levels analyzed elements fall within ± 10%. The detection limits (3σ) for lowered 30 ppm 5 ppm, respectively. This provide precise analysis natural samples help significant information on formation process.

High Count Rate Electron Probe Microanalysis
Reducing the measurement uncertainty of quantitative analyses made using electron probe microanalyzers (EPMA) requires a careful study of the individual uncertainties from each definable step of the measurement. Those steps include measuring the incident electron beam current and voltage, knowing the angle between the electron beam and the sample (takeoff angle), collecting the emitted x rays f...
متن کاملElectron Probe Microanalysis (EPMA)
An electron microprobe is an electron microscope designed for the non-destructive x-ray microanalysis and imaging of solid materials. It is essentially a hybrid instrument combining the capabilities of both the scanning electron microscope (SEM) and an x-ray fluorescence spectrometer (XRF), with the added features of fine-spot focusing (~ 1 micrometer), optical microscope imaging, and precision...

The section on tranquilizers comprises three chapters: (1) Phenothiazine derivatives by P. B. Bradley, (2) Rauwolfia derivatives by J. J. Lewis and (3) Diphenylmethane derivatives by T. R. Sherrod. The first two are, quite justifiably, restricted to detailed accounts of the pharmacology of chlorpromazine and reserpine respectively, which are treated as model compounds representative of their ch...
متن کاملQuantitative Electron Probe Microanalysis
The recognition and understanding of the role of the microstructure in controlling the macroscopic behavior of a material has been a major theme of science and technology throughout the history of NBS/NIST. In materials science, the late 19th century saw the development of the sample preparation procedures we know today as “metallography” and “materialography,” and the emergence of optical micr...
متن کاملQuantitative Electron-probe Microanalysis and WDS Background Measurement
The accuracy of electron-probe microanalysis (EPMA) by wavelength-dispersive spectrometry (WDS) depends critically on spectrometer alignment, specimen positioning, pulse-height (PHA) discrimination, and deadtime correction, but also on the accurate measurement of characteristic x-ray intensities (i.e., “peak”) and continuum (i.e., “background”) which form the k-ratio that is converted by correc...
